Dr. Estacio is director of Community Health at CPC. He is a general internist at Denver Health and Associate Professor in Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Estacio maintains a primary care practice for underserved patients including a high percentage of patients with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Most of his patients are of Latino ethnicity and are socioeconomically disadvantaged. He also currently serves as the Associate Medical Director of Quality and Research at Denver Health, our local safety net hospital. Dr. Estacio’s career has focused on diabetes, hypertension and heart disease prevention over the past 20 years. More recently, Dr. Estacio has utilized his experience in clinical trials to improve health care delivery to disadvantage populations through outreach projects such as CHHS and CHARLAR. He joined CPC in 1992 as the Assistant Medical Director of its Appropriate Blood Pressure Control in Diabetes (ABCD) Trial, became Medical Director of this large clinical trial in 1995, and Co-Principal Investigator of the ABCD Trial in 2001 where he gained most of his expertise in clinical trials. Dr. Estacio is the author or co-author of numerous articles on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
